澳洲一項調查顯示，澳洲腔英語不容易聽懂，就連嬰兒聽澳洲英語，也很難聽懂。

澳洲「西雪梨大學」，對在澳洲出生的一歲零三個月大的嬰兒，進行測試，讓他們聽澳洲人說的英語和加拿大人說的英語。結果發現，澳洲英語的母音和上揚聲調，讓他們感到困惑，而加拿大腔的英語，他們比較容易聽懂。

研究報導說，這項調查顯示，外國移民剛抵達澳洲時，不容易聽動澳洲英語，需要一段時間才能適應。
