兒科醫學會今舉辦健康論壇，探討菸害對兒童的影響，會中提出根據台大新生科及公共衛生學院於2005年6月至2006年7月期間所進行的調查，發現懷孕時抽菸的母親所生下的嬰兒，其出生體重明顯較未抽菸組的嬰兒低，減少70至398克，且生下低出生體重兒的機率是未抽菸組的1.6至6.3倍。抽菸的母親生下早產兒的機率也高達1.09至3.87倍。

兒科醫學會副秘書長葉樹人表示，吸菸是成癮性行為，成年人吸菸是自己的選擇，但胎、嬰幼兒無法選擇自己的環境，除了二手菸，三手菸會在大人離開吸菸場所後，菸害會留在沙發、布幔、衣物裡，量較少但毒性比直接吸菸還強。呼籲大人為了自己的健康、家中的孩子戒菸。
